Service to the Military
Our commitment to the armed forces is unwavering. Active-duty members and veterans make tremendous sacrifices to protect our nation and freedoms. At the NSCDA, we honor these heroes by participating in programs that provide support and share their stories.
We support our military by providing assistance to troops abroad and families and veterans at home.
Veterans History Project
The NSCDA collaborates with the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress to collect and preserve firsthand accounts of military veterans. These stories, dating from World War I to recent conflicts, offer valuable insights into the realities of military service. Our members have conducted, documented, and cataloged over 500 interviews with veterans.

Wreaths Across America
The NSCDA-OR’s participation in Wreaths Across America aligns perfectly with its mission to promote historic preservation, patriotism, and education. By joining forces with this national initiative, the Colonial Dames underscore their commitment to remembering those who gave their lives in service, honoring those who continue to serve, and teaching future generations about the value of sacrifice and duty.
Wreaths Across America’s motto, “Remember. Honor. Teach.,” resonates deeply with the NSCDA-OR, a sponsor. Each wreath placed is not just a decoration but a symbol of gratitude and a promise to keep the legacy of our veterans alive.
America’s VetDogs
In 2021, the NSCDA partnered with America’s VetDogs, a program that provides service dogs to blind, deaf, and impaired veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders. Since then, our Corporate Societies, town committees, and Dames have united through the VetDogs “Name a Puppy” initiative.
